The Voice For Life singing workshop is for all who enjoy using their voice, whether in a choir or just in the shower. You will be taught different techniques for warming up, breath work and key tips for keeping your voice strong and healthy into old age. The sessions are taught by top leaders in their field who are passionate about everything regarding the voice and feedback tells us you will leave feeling uplifted and joyful with more knowledge than your choir leader can can give you.

 

We are excited to announce that the workshop leader for 2027 is Maria Jagusz.

 

Maria Jagusz

 

Maria comes from a Polish/Irish background and spent her formative years in Manchester. Her first professional engagement was appearing in Aladdin and subsequently studied singing at the Manchester School of Music and thereafter The Royal Northern College of Music, After graduating, she won the Ricordi Prize for Opera and continued as a postgraduate. Major college roles led to appearances with English National Opera before she joined the newly formed English National Opera North, later Opera North. She then studied at the National Opera Studio and following her studies Maria sang the title role in Offenbach’s Les Brigands at the Edinburgh Festival. Her career has included leading companies such as the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Scottish Opera, Longborough Festival Opera and Opera Northern Ireland, as well as international appearances with Opera de Lyon, Lisbon Opera, Singapore Lyric Opera, Royal Opera House Valletta and the Royal Danish Opera.

Her major roles include Carmen, Cherubino, Dorabella, Rosina, Hansel, Orlofsky, Nicklausse and Madame Armfeldt. She has performed alongside leading artists including José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, Mirella Freni, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Lesley Garrett.

A versatile concert artist, Maria has performed extensively across the UK and Europe, including at the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican and Royal Albert Hall. She was also a participant in Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now scheme.

Since 2006, Maria has been Artistic Director of MJ.UK, giving young singers opportunities to perform professionally while raising thousands of pounds for charity. She was recently appointed Honorary Chairman of the Silurian Consort in recognition of her contribution to music in the Cotswolds.
